Mixing Colors

In the book GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING by Tracy Chevalier the maid who eventually wears that earring is working in the studio grinding pigments and mixing paint. It’s a time consuming job, and the pigments must be rinsed sometimes 30 times? I had no idea.. What a relief I can buy my Winsor-Newton watercolors from Jerry’s Artarama or lately the local Michael’s Hobby and Craft Store.
